Westfield Pop-Up Restaurant

We craned a temporary kitchen onto the roof of Westfield Stratford City shopping centre to be used for a three-week pop-up restaurant project which gave diners a fine dining experience with spectacular views across London. The project took place while the shopping centre was still being built, giving diners a sneak preview of the site and views of the Olympic Park which was being constructed opposite (we also supplied hundreds of kitchens and thousands of items of catering equipment to the Olympics, but that's another story!).

The "Studio East Dining Pavilion" was an innovative collaboration between Westfield, Bistrotheque and Carmody Groarke, and fed 2,000 people over the course of the three weeks. Designed by architects Carmody Groarke, the restaurant was made from scaffolding and boards borrowed from the site and covered in recyclable plastic sheeting, in keeping with its setting. The materials were then returned to site when the restaurant was dismantled.

PKL's kitchen facilities were designed to Bistrotheque's strict specification. They were then pre-fabricated off-site and delivered to site in portable buildings, reinforcing the construction site feel of the project.
